Scotty Hills is a Canadian singer-songwriter based in Vancouver, BC. Over his storied career, Scott has toured North America and Europe as an artist and drummer. As a songwriter, he has been nominated for a Juno Award, a Polaris prize, and has won a WCMA. Scotty was raised on AM radio soul and country, has made his mark in blues music, and has written for pop/rn’b for artists like Rihanna, in some of the worlds best studios.
Scotty has written with, opened for, or has shared the stage or studio with some incredible artists including Hubert Sumlin (Howlin’ Wolf), Jodi Williams (Muddy Waters), Chuck Berry, Tegan and Sarah, Illangelo (The Weekend), Shaun Verreault, ReignWolf, Big Dave McLean, The Perpetrators, Chicago Bluesman Nigel Mack, Taj Mahal, Jerrod Bettis (Adele/One Republic), Deputy (Rihanna), Los Lobos, North Mississippi Allstars, Hailey Reinhart and many more.
CAREER BACKGROUND
Scotty got his start in Saskatoon at age four singing radio jingles, came of age with Nirvana, then got hit hard with post war Chicago Blues. For a decade, he toured as a drummer/singer with various American blues bands, backing up blues royalty like Hubert Sumlin' and Jody Williams, both of which were pivotal figures in the early Chess Records dynasty. He spent five years as drummer and vocalist with The Perpetrators, where he collected the Juno award nomination and WCMA win for his role as co-writer and producer. The band opened for blues legends like Chuck Berry, Taj Mahal, Los Lobos , R.L. Burnside and more.
He began releasing music for a solo project, coming from behind the drums to write and perform under his own name. In 2014 Scotty signed to Ole/RocNation and traveled to L.A., writing and creating demos for pop Icon Rihanna, collaborating with producers like Deputy (Rihanna), Jerrod Bettis (Adele, One Republic) and others. In 2022 he was shortlisted for a Polaris prize, for his songwriting on funk group Sargent and Comrade’salbum “Magic Radio”.
